Welcome to Studio Omo

The client’s love for Scandinavian design blended with the architect’s passion for sculptural geometries, resulting in this unique transformation of a Hoa home located in San Diego’s north county. This house with a generous backyard, situated on a hill overlooking a horse stable, lacked connection to the outdoors. It had a homogenous developer’s feel that was missing character. To establish a sense of identity and achieve cohesion multiple interventions were necessary. Subtle changes in the layout were made to give a feel of openness and lightness. Dark iron staircase railing was replaced with curved drywall, custom made railing, and floating lighting for a more elegant and airy feel.

A primary wall was reconstructed into three tall, steel doors to help channel the charm od the landscape outside into the living room experience. Natural tones integrated into the palette along with quartzite stone and oak to evoke a sense of calmness. Edgeless geometry weaves through the interior of the house, softening ridgit “boxy ” lines. The powder room is a contrast to the light interior of the rest of the house. Here the color is deep and rich, it gives off a “cave-like” feeling. Lightly textures limewashed walls and a terrazzo floor are a playful addition to an otherwise quiet interior elsewhere.

The result of those interventions is house with new spirit and character, designed to celebrate the quaint landscape on which it rests. The home is now a narrative in the family story and a welcome place amongst friends and acquaintances.
